Rosedale began as farm and dairy land in the 1860′s. In the 1900s, four florists and nurseries found their home in this area. Much of the nursery stock planted during that time remains, as witnessed by the many lovely trees in the neighborhood. The Rosedale neighborhood is located in the northern part of Central Austin. The neighborhood borders on 38th Street to the south, Shoal Creek to the west, North Loop / Hancock Drive to the north, and Lamar Boulevard to the east.

Ramsey Park, with its swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, and picnic areas, is located in the heart of the neighborhood. There are over 1200 homes in the area, a wide variety of businesses within easy walking distance, and an extensive network of medical services close at hand, including Seton Hospital.
The majority of the homes in the Rosedale area were built during the 1930s and 1940s, giving them an allure not found with newer construction. The many renovation projects and new construction throughout the neighborhood lend a sense of vitality and renewal.
Beyond the delightful charm of the area, the Rosedale neighborhood’s location makes it one of the most desirable of Austin’s neighborhoods. With close proximity to the Capitol, downtown, and The University of Texas, as well as easy access to the main thoroughfares of Austin.
Children in the Rosedale neighborhood whose families live south of 45th Street generally attend Bryker Woods Elementary and then Martin Junior High School.
Children whose families live north of 45th Street generally attend Highland Park Elementary, and then Lamar Middle School .
Children from all parts of the Rosedale neighborhood go to McCallum High, although children who attended elementary school at Bryker Woods can opt to go to Austin High School.
From 7th grade onward, some children also have the choice of attending one of the magnet programs. The Rosedale School, which is part of AISD, is a multi-level school designed for children with special needs.
